Some people do have very, hmm... compartmentalised brains?

Even here in the UK, I have people telling me I pay too much attention to what's going on in America, Canada, etc.

"That doesn't affect us here!"

Now I don't want to suggest that you are the problem as the writer - it IS the problem of the people who assume absolute separation - but I hope you have ways of showing people in your writings about Africa just HOW this does affect people in another nations and cultures. Because I have to plant a flag here on this one; many people simply don't do that.
