Oh, this happened twice... So they removed your piece again after issuing the first apology.

What a bunch of muppets.

What worries me most about all this censorship and cancel culture stuff is not exactly that it's happening on Facebook - it's that it's happening in so many different and largely influential places all at once, and that it risks creating a kind of uniformity among people that's driven by anxiety and fear of exploring certain subjects and trains of thought.

This is why I've spent so much time writing about censorship, free expression, and the human desire to try to direct and control other people's thoughts and words. The people behind these "cancels" aren't impressive people, by any means. It's not like they've gained ultimate insight and wisdom and now actually have what it takes to raise humanity up from the dirt.

No, they have an agenda. It's not always clear what that is, not even to themselves as they keep tripping up over their own codes of conduct, but it's definitely there.

What's your plan for posting further pieces there? Or are you taking a kind of wait and see approach? After all, you mentioned that your account could be banned if you violate the same thing more than once.

I would hate to see you going through a kind of existential struggle with your writing, fighting the tendency to tone yourself down and dilute your writing to the point of never taking risks, or just caving to it entirely. I don't think that would happen though, but after this whole mess, there's no doubt that you'll have to deal with certain intrusive censorship-fuelled thoughts in the future.

Anyway, I'm glad you wrote on this. It's important that we don't allow this kind of thing to shut us up.
